METHOD (VIDHI) OF SHIV PUJA AT HOME

Lord Shiva is worshiped with all sixteen rituals during ShravanMass and other occasions related to Lord Shiva.

Worshiping Gods and Goddesses with all 16 rituals is known as Shodashopachar Puja (षोडशोपचार पूजा).

Below is the simple steps to do ShivPuja at Home.

Dhyanam (ध्यानम्)

Puja should begin with the meditation of Lord Shiva. Dhyana should be done in front of Shivalinga. Following Mantra should be chanted while meditating on Lord Shiva

Avahanam (आवाहनं)

Avahanam Samarpayami – After Dhyana of Lord Shiva, one should chant following Mantra in front of the Murti, by showing Avahan Mudra (Avahan Mudra is formed by joining both palms and folding both thumbs inwards).

Padyam (पाद्यम्)

Padyam Samarpayami – After Lord Shiva has been invoked, offer Him water to wash the feet.

Arghyam (अर्घ्यम्)

Arghyam Samarpayami – After Padya offering, offer water to Shri Shiva for head Abhishekam

Achamaniyam (आचमनीयम्)

Achamaniyam Samarpayami – Now offer water to Shri Shiva for Achamana

Godugdha Snanam (गोदुग्धस्नानम्)

Godugdha Snanam Samarpayami – Now give a bath with cow milk

Dadhi Snanam (दधिस्नानम्)

Dadhi Snanam Samarpayami – Now give a bath with curd.

Ghrita Snanam (घृत स्नानम्)

Ghrita Snanam Samarpayami – Now give a bath with Ghee

Madhu Snanam (मधु स्नानम्)

Madhu Snanam Samarpayami – Now give a bath with honey

Sharkara Snanam (शर्करा स्नानम्)

Sharkara Snanam Samarpayami – Now give a bath with sugar

Shuddhodaka Snanam (शुद्धोदक स्नानम्)

Shuddhodaka Snanam Samarpayami – Now give a bath with fresh water

Vastram (वस्त्रं)

Vastram Samarpayami – After giving bath with Panchamrita to Lord Shiva offer Him clothes

Yagyopavitam (यज्ञोपवीतं)

Yagyopavitam Samarpayami – After Vastram offering, offer holy thread to Lord

Gandham (गन्धम्)

Gandham Samarpayami – After this offer sandalwood paste or powder to Lord Shiva

Akshatan (अक्षतान्)

Akshatan Samarpayami – After Gandham offering, offer Akshat to Lord Shiva

Pushpani (पुष्पाणि)

Pushpamalam Samarpayami – After this offer flowers and garland to Lord Shiva

Bilva Patrani (बिल्व पत्राणि)

Bilva Patrani Samarpayami – After this offer Bilvapatram to
Lord Shiva

Dhoopam (धूपम्)

Dhoopam Aghrapayami – After this offer Agarbatti or Dhoop-batti to Lord Shiva

Deepam (दीपं)

Deepam Darshayami – After this offer enlightened earthen lamp of pure Ghee to Lord Shiva

Naivedyam (नैवेद्यं)

Naivedyam Nivedayami – Wash your hands after lamp offering and offer Naivedya. It should include different type of fruits and sweets and offer this to Lord Shiva

Achamaniyam (आचमनीयं)

Achamaniyam Samarpayami – After offering Naivedya, offer Achamana to Lord Shiva

Tambulam (ताम्बुलम्)

Tambula Nivedayami – After this offer betel leaf (Tambula) to Lord Shiva

Dakshinam (दक्षिणां)

Dakshinam Samarpayami – After offering Tambulam, offer money to Lord Shiva

Aarti (आरती)

Aarartikyam Samarpayami – After offering Dakshina, offer Aarti with lit camphor in Puja Thali to Lord Shiva

Pradakshinam (प्रदक्षिणाम्)

Pradakshinam Samarpayami – After Aarti, take half Parikrama of Lord Shiva

Mantra Pushpanjali (मन्त्र पुष्पाञ्जलि)

Mantra Pushpanjali Samarpayami – After Pradakshina offer incantations and flowers to Lord Shiva

Kshama-Prarthana (क्षमा-प्रार्थना)

After Mantra Pushpanjali offer apologies and ask for forgiveness to Lord Shiva

The mantra to #Chant during Puja duration is #ॐनमःशिवाय (Om Namah Shivaya).
